First and second level academic training in applied sciences typically stops at standard statistical techniques of data processing. In this course we intend to provide students with advanced notions of processing, with reference to two very current topics: on the one hand, the vast amount of data available (we are currently in the era of big data), and on the other hand, the spread of artificial intelligence techniques, which may find very novel applications in reconstructing 3D and 4D features of the ocean. Practical exercises will be offered to students along with theoretical considerations.
Students will become familiar with the most current techniques of advanced statistical treatment of data, with the issue of large data set processing, and with the now available artificial intelligence tools for processing oceanographic data.
